Description

Ivory. The lozenge-shaped mouthpiece rim, slightly undercut at the ends and with steeply defined edges on all sides ( cf. AF841, expert for the transverse ring) is balanced by a similar decorative element on the opposite side of the tusk, but without perforation. The mouthpiece hole is oval, not losenge-shaped. For the repitition of the form of the mouthpiece rim as a decorative device, see Annales du Musee du congo !!!, 1, figs. 238 to 244; this most closely resembles the simplest form, fig. 238. All these are from the Welle River. Cf. also fig. 89e and f in Ankermann.
