Description

Ceremonial huipil for Cofradia. Side panels plain white cotton. Central panel brocaded. Design units contained within horizontal bands. Alternating design elements. Diamonds and chevrons interspaced with animal, plant and humans. Brocade design done in cotton thread. Purple neckband with orange, green, yellow and blue croched applique. Worn with white veil like bride. Side panels are pieced with commercial twill fabric.

As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp central panel: 15 epi, two ply, white cotton. Weft central panel: 40 ppi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Central panel is weft faced plain weave. Warp side panels: 54 epi, two singles, Z twist, white cotton. Weft side panels: 23 ppi, three singles, Z twist, white cotton. Side panels are warp faced plain weave. Three panels, three selvedges each. Woven on a backstrap loom."
