Description | Of brass with copper inlay. Of octogonal plan, with four short sides formed by cutting off the angles of what would otherwise be a long rectangle. The inlay is confined to the top of the lid and forms a design mainly of lozenges in an arrangement similar to that of the triangles on the lid of the box, No. 1, in pl. XLI, Cole, Wild Tribes of Davao District. The box contains three compartments, one on each side of the larger central one. The two smaller compartments are fitted with separate lids; one has been used for powdered lime. The other two for areca nuts and betel (also perhaps tobacco) leaves. See Cole, p. 70. The metal rod for the hinge of the outer lid is missing. Cf. the buyo outfits, P 2958 - 2963. |
