Description | Gray ware, mottled light gray slip, burnished. Globular body, small flattened base, wide mouth with small slightly upward tilted open-top spout extending from rim. The pot was cracked in antiquity (?) from side of spout down and across the bottom and up the other side to point opposite spout. On the side of this crack there are drilled from outside 4 pairs holes. One pair just below spout; a pair on each side of body just above base; the 4th pair was opposite rim. In field catalogue it is suggested these are repair holes (used to lash break together?) There is also another crack on the other side of spout extending from rim to above mentioned crack. There is a pair of drilled holes on the sides of this crack about 40 mm. from rim. CF 33-21-852. |
