Description | Vermeule: Chalcedony-Onyx. Cameo. (Modern Gold Ring Setting) Similar to 2327, 2358. Pan running to right, carrying an object in his outstretched left hand. No. 2327, 2329, 2358 and 2362 were all made as a set by the same hand, probably in the 15 or 16th centuries. 2362 The scenes with Pan appear to be copied from ancient Bacchic reliefs which are not mounted in the main hallway of the Villa Borghese in Rome. They have been known since the earliest Renaissance. |
