Description

Paper scroll. Kakemono. One of a pair on same subject, the rebirth into the land of bliss or Ōjōyōshū (往生要集). Hanging is of pongee silk on paper; the painting is made up of 6 panels of 13 scenes, purgatories, hells, divided by bright blue bands. Note says these are late middle 19 century copies of a painting by Genshin (10th century) in the Raiko-ji temple. Many demons and horrors. Crude coloring. See companion piece, 29-96-508
