Description | Wooden Katsina doll with movable arms. The face is painted white with realistic human features. Triangular, hachured areas are painted on the cheeks in red. The forehead has a rolled hair ornament with red yarn at either end. The hair is painted black and there is a notch around the head where a tableta headdress would fit in. The body is painted with black, white, red and green geometric patterns. This figure is the Butterfly Maiden (Palhik Mana). (Colton, H. 1959 #120, Wright, B., 1973 #106) |
