Description | Bird faced mask with bulging eyes, red open beak with projecting tongue, ten small sharp upper teeth, small fangs. Three-pointed crown on forehead. Separately carved human-like ears with gold ear ornaments. A mask for the mythical bird Garuda or the King of the Birds, Jatayu, in Wayang Wong dance drama. Probably originally had a gold tooled hide headdress (see 58-17-143). |
