Description | CBS Register: shell. cut piece for inlay. head of an ibex. UE I: shell inlay, the head of an ibex or wild goat; the horns, which circled right round to the nape of the neck, are chipped at the tip. The animal was silhouetted in shell, and the carving is naturalistic in style and admirable in quality. It was found on the NE side of the stairs, and might therefore have come not from the main part of the facade of the temple to which the other inlays belong, but either from its continuation beyond the stairs or from the NE side of the building. David Reese identified this as Stone |
