Description

Flat bottom, tapering body, flaring neck, one loop handle shoulder to neck, red bottle with face on neck and engraved arms and necklace

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a globular body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. There is a modeled/molded face with ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. Arms and a necklace are incised on the body. The facial features and necklace are also painted in black/brown. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3129."
