Technique Basketry
Description

White oak splint. Square base, restricted neck, circular rim. Over one, under one plating (checkerwork). Narrow orange wefts; wide uncolored alternating with wide brown warps. Contrasting neck band and band next to base have two wide brown, one wide orange, and six narrow brown wefts. (Natural warps almost invisible in these bands.) Reinforcing splint on either side of neck opening, lashed on with narrow orange-brown strip. Only brown and white elements used in base. Brown dye, walnut bark; (red)-orange, blood root.
