Description | Bucchero oinochoe with a flaring disk foot. The body flares outward towards the carination, and then inward. It angles inwards again sharply at the shoulder. The neck is narrow and flared, and there is a ridge at the join between neck and shoulder. The top of the neck is broken off, as is the wide strap handle. The neck and the top of the handle have both been restored. There is a siglum on the underside of the foot. It starts as an x-shape (forma quadrans), but at each end the line turns 90 degrees (similar to a swastika, except that the lines are not all oriented in the same direction). The oinochoe is entirely restored from the mid-neck up. The surface is quite encrusted with lines, perhaps from roots, and it is somewhat pocked towards the bottom. White dots may indicate salt deposits coming to the surface. Note: It has a blue and white sticker with dots, with “5” written on it. |
