Description

Small Vase with Face

Face-neck narrow-necked jar/bottle (aríbalo, aryballos) with an ovate body, flaring neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a conical (aribaloid) base. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with ear spools, dangly ear ornaments, eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is not visible in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the side of the body reads: "2402."
