Description | Ceremonial huipil for Cofradia. White with red selvedges and red in loom cords, corded to form squares. Two pieces with randa. Heavily brocaded in red and lavender cotton. Shoulder bands, front and back designed with rows of animals, birds and three legged donkeys[?]. Red cotton thread- madder dye, purple cotton thread purpura dye [Robert Carlsen 1984]. As per Sigrid Meier, "Warp: 38 epi, three and four singles, Z twist, white cotton. Weft: 22 ppi, three and four singles, Z twist, white cotton. Warp predominantly plain weave. Supplementary weft is two faced, continuous and discontinuous. Two panels, four selvedges. Woven on a backstrap loom." |
