Description | Silver with electrum head in form of sphinx; pin now missing but was attached to sphinx in record photograph. Sphinx plump, head round and tilted back, ears large and fat, wings lanceolate with two diagonal grooves; two pieces of repousse metal joined on ledian line. Style seems Syrian so may be Syrian import except that technique and the little silver tube inserted in base looks like work of same silversmiths who made other objects from this tomb. |
