Description

Painted pot with two serpentine lines in relief and spotted in white, two horizontal loop handles, turnip neck

Cooking pot (olla) with a globular body, bulging collar, rounded rim, 2 horizontal strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel is red slipped with two raised snakes on the body painted with white stripes. There are curvilinear and geometric designs in white paint on the neck and handles. The vessel appears to have been smoothed with a rotative movement on the exterior and scraped on the interior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes soot on the exterior and residue/accretions on the interior. There is a resinous black accretion over the exterior base and red accretions/staining on the interior of the base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2733a."
