Description | Sommerville: Antique paste cameo. Africa. The headdress is the skin of an elephant's head. Antique Pastes, Case TTT. Vermeule: Ancient paste, imitating Chalcedony-Onyx. Cameo. (Unmounted) Broken across top. Draped bust of Apica facing to right. She wears the elephant skin cap, the trunk of which is broken off above her curls over the forehead. Graeco-Roman, after Alexandrine Hellenistic models. |
