Description | Point or arrowhead. Elongated leaf-shaped. Points at both ends missing. Retouched on both sides. Gray stone. This is an example of the flat narrow leaf-shaped bifacially retouched points. They are a form of arrowhead which is found in excavated sites from the end of the Late Paleolithic up to the Yayoi periods and are found throughout Japan. For example, leaf-shaped points have been uncovered at Etchuyama, Yamagata Prefecture, Northern Honshu. This site is one of the earliest with this type of point and has been dated to c. 14,000 B.P. These arrowheads are part of a long-lasting and far-reaching technology in arrowhead production which began in the Late Paleolithic Period. |
