Description | Brown ware, pot molded encircling double band of dot and line ornamentation. Two vertical loop handles. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a carinated body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 2 strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel has a raised dot and line design around the shoulder. Orange slipped?. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing and reducing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is gray and orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The discoloration and porosity at the top of the vessel suggest that it may have been over-fired. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink on the bottom of the base. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2865i." |
