Description

Qin. Used by poets and educated classes. Long roughly rectangular, flat wooden instrument. One end square the other rounded with slightly raised reddish wood on top. Bridge and wood piece for attachment of string of reddish wood 6 cm. from square end. Body of instrument painted reddish brown. Hollow body, two rectangular holes in the bottom, four round pegs 29 cm. from the bottom of instrument to which the strings are attached. Seven small knobs at the ends of strings hold strings through instrument at bottom of square end of instrument. Long green tassels attached to each knob. Seven strings, thirteen round nacre inlays are in line, the lenght of the sound board. Two legs at the square end of instrument. Good condition. One string missing, two legs detached, three tassels missing. Made in Kyoto, Japan according to label inside of sounding board.
