Description | Annular base; depressed body; tapering neck; one loop handle body to neck. Black. With a face on neck; spread arms in low relief: Cat ? in low relief on body below face. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a squat-globular body, tapered neck, missing rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a ring base/foot base. The vessel has a molded/modeled face on the neck where it joins to the body. There are two modeled arms extending out from the neck on either side of the body. There is an animal with a curly tail in relief on the front of the body. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1923." |
