Description | Fragmentary, with spout. With broad handle originally seems to have had a whistle. Flat base, expanding side slightly convex top; tapering spout; formerally connected by flat horizontal handle with column which held whistle Narrow necked jug with a carinated body, tapered neck, flat rim, 1 bridge handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. No molded/modeled additions. Possibly a whistling vessel. The vessel is orange slipped with bands of red, and black decoration around the exterior. The top of the body has painted circle designs in red, white, black, and gray/purple? The neck is painted black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "808." |
