Description | Bucchero pesante. Vertical medallion with palmette in relief on rim at each side of handle; incised decoration on one side under the rim; tongue pattern in relief on shoulder; panthers in relief on body; on the handle in relief is a seated animal figure. Bucchero molded and tooled. Trefoil-mouthed, ovoid body, low flaring foot. Three relief lions facing right on body, relief tongues on shoulder, relief crouching feline on handle. One rondel with relief palmette. Relief bands, incised zigzags on the neck and below tongues. Three grooves below lion frieze. Fabric uneven grey core, fine-grained with flecks of mica (?). Glossy black surface. A large brown patch (faulty firing). Condition: scratched and abraded. Missing rondel restored with plaster and black paint. A few pieces missing. Technique: thrown in sections in a jigger on the wheel. molded handle and rondels. Burnished. Place of manufacture: probably Chiusi. |
