Description

Flat base, depressed angular body, slightly flaring neck, one loop handle shoulder to neck, face of incasic type on neck

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with a carinated body, flaring neck, flattened rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel is painted red, white, and black, with arms on the body and delineating the features of the face on the neck with is molded/modeled with ears, eyes, nose, mouth, and chin. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Evidence of usewear includes surface attrition on the bottom/base. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2840."
