Description

Male figure, standing on hook. Staring round conus shell eyes. Bird on back of head, its beak coming down to center of forehead. Three spurs on each upper arm (one broken off, left). Fingers and toes individuated and articulated in a peculiar way. Right thumb broken off. Carved rings around ankles, carved chevron ornament on breast. Scrarifications on breasts, upper arms, and down both sides of back. Seven carved vertebrae. Knobs on knees, ridges down front of calves.

The individuation and peculiar articulation of the fingers and toes, the knobby kneecaps and ridges down calves are characteristic of figures made at Kandingai. The round, staring eyes often on a series of oval discs, are also characteristic of figures from this village, although they may also have almond-shaped eyes.*
