Description

Consists of 3 solid sections of palm leaf rib on which are fastened 9 keys made of the outer part of the rib of raphia palm leaf. The mode of attachment is that of fig. 555 (Mbum, Cameroons) in Ankermann, Ethnologisches Notizblatt, III, 1. See also p. 90: in Lunda the sections are hollowed, in Cameroons they are sometimes left solid (pp. 34-35). The attribution to the Baya was the original one; it was altered by Torday to bayanzi, for no apparent reason, unless that he mistook the word for an abbreviation.
