Description | Plain, spherical red, slightly painted in white on bulging neck and around horizontal loop handles. White painting indicated origin in the later period of coast civilization Cooking pot (olla) with a globular body, cylindrical collar, rounded rim, 2 horizontal strap handles on the body, and a rounded base. No molded/modeled additions. The vessel is painted with white around the handles and neck and red on the body. The vessel appears to have been smoothed with a rotative movement on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange, red and buff in color. Fireclouding is present on the bottom and walls. There are regular striations on the neck suggesting a rotative movement. Evidence of usewear includes residue on the interior. There is a black charred material at the interior. The catalogue number is written in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the vessel reads: "3738." |
