Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is unpainted with inverted "V" lines in red, black and yellow above the protruding, tube mouth. Horizontal bands of black and red are painted across the forehead. Feathers and yarn are attached to the top of the head and to the ears. The body is painted red, white and yellow and a kilt is painted around the waist. This figure is the Kau-a (or Qoia) Katsina, borrowed from the Navajo. (Colton, H. 1959 #135, Wright, B., 1973 #178) |
