Description | Gawndegawnde. Wooden. The mask is of the same general tpe as the regular Bondo mask with modifications: The face and the hair at the sides are whitened with pipeclay; the mouth is not indicated; the coiffure is surmounted by a cotta [pad for supporting a head load] from which rise 4 short corrugated columns supporting an oval disc surmounted by a double loop carved in a basketwork design. To 3 of the columns and to the loop are tied bunches of raphia fibre dyed black [dark brown]. The usual fringe of the same material is tied to the lower edge of the mask. |
