Description

War canoe stern post. This is the small type with sharp angle at the top. It has two ribs, a human figure on the base, a schematic manaia grasping the ribs. The figure is a stylized naturalistic figure with concentration on eyes and nose, it has a small knot on top of the head. Decoration on the ribs is by rolling spirals and the base of the ribs are carried as smooth bodies with a median ridge. Style is south Taranaki to Whonganin.
