Description | Large polished stone adze. Wider cutting edge is broken off. Beveled sides. Gray stone with pock marked surface. A group of nine polished adzes, namely 2289, 2290, 13144, 13145, 13146, 13147, 13152, 13153, 13154 and 13155, are typical of the type of polished adzes which appear throughout Japan from the Early Jomon Period onward. Over 16 centimeters in length this piece is one of the larger specimens of this type. |
