Description | Small oval basket with lid; woven from cedar bark and sea grasses. Dun colored with woven whaling design, greenish black on sides, red on lid. Makah baskets are distinguished by there diminutive size and rounded or oval shape. They were designed to store personal trinkets and frequently had lids. The baskets frequently display scenes similar to the one on this basket, demonstrating this cultures dependence on sea mammals. |
