Description

Three dimensional puppet with wooden torso, wooden head, wooden arms, articulated at shoulder and elbows, cotton skirt from waist down. Puppet is held and operated by a wooden stick which passes through a hole in the torso and into the base of the head and by sticks attached to the hands. Face blue, rest of skin gold. Bulging round red eyes, hooked nose. large headdress with crown, ear ornaments. Red/green/white ornaments at upper arms and wrists. Wrists flexed. Red chest cover with white edge, pointed front and back, painted on. Dark red sash with small flowers and crosses with dots. Batik skirt; light brown with overall pattern of dark blue birds, leaves flowers. Fabric typical of central Java. Character is kartamarma, one of the Kaurawa.
