Description | A food pounder (penu) used to prepare offerings. It is conical in shape and flares out towards the bottom. The top has two two flanges with an incised design in the middle. The Polynesian stone food pounder was invented in the Marquesas Islands, but in Central Polynesia its form was changed: a crossbar was added to the handle. |
