Description | Wooden Katsina doll. The face is painted blue with black and red lines on the cheeks indicating clouds. The eyes are narrowed rectangles. Stepped panels attach to either side of the head to form a headdress with painted flower blossoms. A tuft of feathers is attached to the top of the head. The body is painted red, yellow and orange and a kilt is painted over the waist. This figure is the Kawaika Katsina, borrowed from the Laguna. (Colton, H. 1959 #196, Wright, B., 1973 #195) |
