Description | Containing "potsherds, recent marine shells" and bone. "The ferruginous sandstone containing fragment of pottery is about one-eigth mile south of the Webbs' house on the wast shore of Little Sarasota Bat. The rock also contains recent marine shells. The rock rises about eighteen inches above high water. The shells and fragments of pottery were of course enveloped in the sand while under the surface of the water. I conclude that the land there has been elevated at least eighteen inches or two feet since the shells and fragments of pottery were enveloped int he sand. The rock extends about thirty feet from the shore where it crops out, and it may have been extended further." |
