Description | Spherical body, bulbous neck modified outside by incised fillets (wings?) and two eyes; one loop handle shoulder to neck. Black encircled with broad band of geometric ornamentation - molded? Narrow-necked jar/bottle with a globular body, bulging neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a rounded base. There are bands of raised geometric decoration around the shoulder, likely from a mold. There is an eye on either side of the handle on the neck, possibly representing a bird with beak. There is a protruding band on either side of the neck behind the eyes, possibly representing wings. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. The catalogue number is written on the object in black ink. Black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2868." |
