Description

Handmade except for face (cast from mold); solid. "Horse (type 47) and rider (one-rowed wreath on band). The rider gazes slightly upward, added handmade beard; hair on top of head roughly scratched. The mold represents a satyr's face, with small snub-nose, long narrow eyes (upper lid overlaps lower at outer corners), pupils shown by circle and dot. Short, thick lips. Hairline in broad curve over flat forehead. The combination of horse and headdress suggest a date in the first half of the fourth century." Rider's hand's on horse's neck. Missing: horse's left hind foot; rider's arms and left leg.
