Description | Head of hawk. One piece of wood, elaborately carved. All-over designs painted in green red, white and black. Oval-oblong, green, inset eye-socket with cameo eye; white iris outlined by groove; Lareg black pupil. Nostrils, each a red concavity, meet in one piercing. Mouth, a red grooce, pierced for moust of length but joined at tip. Formal designs on face are incised and (over) carved in intaglio before painting. Designs of dashes of paint on cheeks, crest of beak and brow, and beneath mask. Top and bottom of head are hollowed with partitions inbetween. Slots and piercing suggest attachment of headdress. |
