Description

Complete. Handmade. Flat base. Flattened ovoid body terminates in fairly small mouth with very large bowl-shaped flaring rim. Four handles at GD, 2 opposing horizontal loop handles, 2 opposing flattened lugs. Rather sloppy brown-black and orange-red geometric decoration. Double red lines at GD below handles. From GD to slightly below rim field is divided into 8 sections by black double lines on each side of handles. Sections enclosing handles have 3 black tear-shaped lozenges above handle, forming a triangle. Areas without handles have stylized vegetal pattern composed of black tear shaped lozenges in a double row with a single one at bottom between rows. Closing off the 8 sections above are double black lines. Then double red lines and broad red band to intersection of body and rim. On top edge of rim, red band. On interior rim, wide red band around mouth, above which is narrow red band. Then 5 large concave semicircles around rim. Red decoration on handles. Medium fabric. Wiped on wheel, then burnished, except for interior rim. Unslipped. Fine clay. Firing varies, buff to orange. Very fine mica.
