Description

Boat model of solid teakwood, from the Dangs forest of South Gujarat. Bottom of boat is painted brown with narrow white stripe. Green stripe runs around sides of boat near top, also broader strip of white paint runs around stern of the boat. Inside of wall as around deck are painted light blue. Model is equipped with two part mast, miniature anchor and rudder, and is mounted on a flat stand. This is a model of a Jamnagar type macchua, a keeled vessel with a square stern and a forward raked mast. Found in Bedi Port near Jamnagar. Overall length = 33 feet. Breadth = 8 feet. Depth = 4 feet. The mast is 2/3 of the overall length and the yard is longer than the overall length.
