Description | Pottery. Flat base, expanding body curving above to nearly cylindrical neck with a modeled face on neck and with painted animal faces on upper body. Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an ovate body, hyperboloid neck, rounded rim, no handles, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled face on the neck with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. The jar is painted with stylized animal faces on the body in red, white, and black. The features of the faces are delineated in black. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange? in color. The catalogue number is written on the interior of neck. No other numbers are visible on the object. |
