Description

Plain. With a face.

Face-neck vessel. Narrow-necked jug with an ovate body, cylindrical neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle extending from the neck to the body, and a flat base. The vessel has a modeled and incised face on the neck with ears, eyes, nose, and mouth. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. The front side of the vessel has a patch of discoloration (red/purple) possibly from firing. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "1140b."
