Description | The decorative carving about and behind the mouthpiece appears to be an elaboration, with regard to the former region; as to the latter, the truncated inverted cone has been modified into a terminal button on a short shaft which has been provided with a handle-like arrangement for a suspension cord. The incised decoration of the rest of the tusk--"Saturn" marks and modifications of these together with combinations of arcs of a circle--suggests a provenience from the Nile-Congo watershed or the Upper Nile. |
