Description | Tambura. Long-necked wooden instrument. Hollow neck with rounded back and slightly convex fingerboard. Front and back separate pieces. Large round front and body of same type of wood. Back of body (missing) attaches to flaring piece of wood separated from the back of neck by ivory band and covered with round wood inlays. Ivory inlay edging fingerboard and soundboard. Circular and leaf ivory inlay in fingerboard and soundboard. Four strings attach to ivory faced string holder at base of body. Four large wooden pegs ( two frontal, one on each side.) Poor condition. Back of body missing. Two pegs and end of a third, missing. Some ivory inlay missing. Most of wood inlay flaked off. Back of neck cracked, strings broken or missing. |
