Description | Fragment of rim and upper wall of large bell-krater. Rim is separated from upper wall by a raised ridge. Profile of rim flares gently outward and is slightly outturned above. Interior and top of rim unglazed. Exterior of rim fully glazed. Upper wall is reserved and on it are painted in glaze from left to right: a large X; a "ladder" pattern with diagonal rungs; one group of concentric circles. Clay nearly russet in color. Glaze: dull dilute brown and brown. Many blobs of glaze (?) or ink (?) on right side of ext. Indentification by Nicolas Coldstream on visit, 8Apr82. |
