Description

Black bottle, flat base, V neck with fruit knobs near base of handle. Pebbled upper body with cats and pelicans in relief. Large with connecting curved handle and spout on top; figure of bird at angle of handle

Stirrup necked jug with a carinated body, no neck/collar, rounded rim, 1 stirrup handle on the body, and a flat base. The stirrup neck is flattened on the sides. The vessel has a band of raised decoration around the shoulder with a background of dots and a cat and bird figure on each side. There are two large projections next to each side of the handle. There is also a small modeled/molded bird sitting on the handle. There appears to be a burnished finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in a reducing atmosphere as the surface is black and the interior is gray in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "2781."
