Description | Kikan, Tortoise, one of a set of four used in Noh dances. Others are A719, A720, A721. Wooden transverse flute in two sections joined by wooden peg covered with white paper with lettering, painted black, top section has head of a tortoise carved and painted. Gold raised designs on wood between bands of red thread. Other section has ten holes, first two are mouth holes, last two vents, two vent holes on back. Tail of the tortoise carved at end. |
