Description

Cylindrical neck with cup-shaped top; one vertical loop handle shoulder to neck. Vessel in shape of a fish

Narrow-necked jar/bottle with an effigy-zoomorphic body, compound neck, rounded rim, 1 strap handle on the body, and a rounded base. The vessel is shaped like a fish with a tail and horns/ears?, eyes, nose, and mouth. The vessel is painted red with white for the face area and brown on the eyes and mouth. There appears to be a smoothed finish on the exterior. The vessel was likely fired in an oxidizing atmosphere as the ceramic paste is orange in color. Fireclouding is present on the body. The catalogue number is written on the bottom of the base and black ink on the bottom of the base reads: "3231."
