Description | Carved of wood with handle in back. Shape is rectangular with bulging sides. Very conventionalized face with long thin nose; raised eyes, with eye slits cut out, sunk in raised eye panel; small scooped shape ears (one broken off): rectangular mouth with sawtooth teeth carved in. Background color is maroon, painted with red, green, white, yellow. Paint is commercial. Identification based on resemblance of eye treatment to Coastal Sepik style. Identified by Dr. Paul S. Wingert. |
